Naughty by Nature fans may never get to see them together again because a member has been booted from the crew. The New Jersey hip hop trio — Treach, Vin Rock (aka Vinnie) and DJ Kay Gee — has disbanded, news of which was made public by way of a pretty revealing Twitter post from Treach. "Vinnie from NAUGHTY BY NATURE is Officially FIRED!! Anything he does besides shows til Sept is Frugazy!! F--- him & the Ground he Walks!!"
Leaving no room for misinterpretation, Treach followed up the tweet with another angry proclamation. "Anybody that f---s with that B---- a-- N---- Don't F--- with Me!!"
Vin reportedly posted a message on Instagram hinting to a split, and has since closed the account. Neither he nor Kay Gee has responded to this latest discrepancy but this isn't the first time members have gone their separate ways. After more than two decades as a rap collective, Kay Gee fell out with Treach over money, leading to his decision to leave the group in 2000. They reunited six years later and dropped the 20th anniversary album Anthem Inc. in 2011.
If the breakup holds weight, the timing couldn't be more unfortunate. According to their website, Naughty by Nature is billed to perform in North Carolina May 18.
Ja Rule Released From Prison
As one big name hip hop star heads to prison, another has been set free.
According to a report from TMZ, Ja Rule was released from Ray Brook Federal Prison in New York today after serving two years for illegal gun possession and tax evasion. The Queens, NY, native was scheduled to be released on July, but he was sprung two months early. Ja will finish out his sentence on home confinement until July 28.
Ja began serving his 28-month sentence in July 2011 for a gun charge stemming from a 2007 incident where police found a loaded semi-automatic handgun in his car. The tax evasion conviction followed after the “Livin’ It Up” MC failed to pay taxes on more than $3 million he earned between 2004-2006.
Mike Tyson: I Want to Play Othello
Mike Tyson may be relatively new to the acting game, but he's ready for a heavyweight role.
The former boxing champ tells the New York Daily News that he would like to play one of literatures most famous characters. "Wouldn’t Shakespeare be awesome? That Black guy…could you imagine me in Othello?"
Despite critical raves for his one-man show, Undisputed, and roles in The Hangover, Entourage and Scary Movie 5, he admits he would need additional training. "Anything you give me time to prepare, I can do," he says. "I don’t think I am ready for [Shakespeare] yet, but I would like to try."
He adds, "My career as an actor has blossomed. I never considered myself a comedian or actor, even though I was in movies and shows helping out friends. A lot of my friends are actors and directors and they say, 'Mike, we need you to concentrate and take it seriously.' They say my skills are horrible, but I have the natural timings for it. I am working on my skills."
Tyson has been experiencing a career renaissance of sorts, so we don't doubt that he's capable of flourishing as an actor. Could a golden statuette be in his future?
Reggie Bush, Lilit Avagyan Welcome Baby Girl
Reggie Bush is a father! The NFL player — and Kim Kardashian ex — welcomed a baby girl with fiancée Lilit Avagyan on Monday. "Lilit gave birth to a beautiful baby girl," a rep for the couple confirmed to Us Weekly.
The couple of nearly two years announced their pregnancy last October, with Bush admitting, "We're pretty excited!"
"It's our first one and couldn't have come at a better time," he shared. "It couldn't have come with a better person. Someone I really love and care about. It's great. It really worked out perfect."
With her brown eyes and long, brunette locks, Avagyan, a 25-year-old dancer, bears a striking resemblance to Bush's famous ex. The two women even share Armenian roots. Kim, of course, is also expecting her first child this July, with boyfriend Kanye West.
Rihanna Tweets About Chris Brown Break Up
Amid another round of breaking up, Rihanna and Chris Brown found new common ground. Taking to social media early Tuesday (May 7), Rih Rih actually agreed with Brown's sentiments from earlier this month, when he said certain kinds of love is not for the young.
"Settling is not an option! Nothing less than 100% loyalty, honesty, and respect!! Love ain't for kidz #butimsleeptho," she tweeted.
Two hours later, her former flame spilled a few of his own thoughts in 140-characters or less, offering a direct nod to her catalogue: "Sometimes loving someone is too much! So loving from a distance will help everyone grow! Be blessed. Live ya life!"
Though the "Nobody's Business" duo seem in sync on their Twiiter timelines, the two recently stopped following each other. But the media has been following closely.
Over the weekend, Brown called into Australian radio's Kyle & Jackie O show and talked about the reasoning behind the couple's latest off-again status. In a nutshell, the 24-year-old said that he's too young to be "wife-ing up" somebody.
"At the end of the day she [Rihanna's] a young girl. I can't really be focused on wife-ing somebody that young…and I'm young too, so I can't focus on that right now," he said. "I just gotta step forward and be a man, and be the best Chris Brown I can be, instead of worrying about whoever else is going to be in my side pocket."
That's sage advice considering Rihanna's been mostly silent on the relationship as of late. Instead, she's focused on her Diamonds World Tour, which made its way back to Boston last night (the original show was canceled due to her laryngitis). Unfortunately, however, by the time the "We All Want Love" singer arrived, it wasn't a warm welcome. The crowd was angry with the 25-year-old for showing up three hours late, playing for only an hour and "lip synching the whole time," according to one audience member's tweet.
Tina Knowles Shares Thoughts on Beyoncé's Tour Costumes
Tina Knowles was the mastermind behind Destiny's Child's costumes and continued to style daughter Beyoncé through her solo career. Now that Bey is out on her Mrs. Carter Show World Tour (buy your ticket for her performance at the BET Experience on June 28!), her mom is right on hand to help with costume changes and quick fixes. Knowles recently chatted with Grazia Daily about her favorite ensembles, handling changes on the spot and the inspiration for the tour's outfits.
"Regal and royal was the theme of the wardrobe," Knowles says. "We took a cue from the O2's commercial which had a queen theme. For the very first scene, Ralph & Russo created these amazing stage outfits because we wanted something over the top and queen-like but modern," she says. "They nailed it with the white outfit."
Another of her favorites is the printed Kenzo romper, saying, "It's African inspired and I like the movement of it, it's really cool with the choreography."
And with all the costume changes that take place each night, how does the team handle fashion mishaps?
"Beyoncé makes nine costume changes so you're going to have little things that go wrong. You just have to think really quickly because you literally have 30 or 40 seconds to change so she's become a master at it," she says. "The designer pieces are beautiful but the team here put in zippers and hidden openings. There are little secrets we can do and there's lots of double-sided tape!"
