Two new singles from the hip hop superstars will drop this Labor Day Weekend

There was a time, not even all that long ago, when there was no more exciting producer/rapper combination in popular music than Timbaland and Missy “Misdemeanor” Elliott. Together, the duo came up with some of the most exciting, mind-expanding and booty-moving music of the turn of the century, with hits like “The Rain (Supa Dupa Fly),” “Hot Boyz,” “Get Ur Freak On,” “Work It” and “Pass That Dutch” enduring as some of the best singles from any genre of that period.

However, with Missy out of the game for a spell—her last single was four years ago, her last album seven, as she struggled with the debilitating autoimmune disease known as Graves’ disease—and with Timbaland busy making hits for Nelly Furtado, Justin Timberlake and for a while there, himself, it’s been a fairly long time since the two hooked up. Well, looks like the wait is finally coming to an end, as Timbaland tweeted the following:

Two new Timbo/Missy songs on Labor Day weekend? That’s cool. Hey, if you guys feel like swinging by the Made in America festival to debut them, we’re sure Jay-Z can make a little room for you. Oh, and Missy has the following to say about the songs themselves:

More futuristic than “Get Ur Freak On” and “Work It”? Yikes. Are these songs gonna be like the Avatar of hip-hop? Pretty pumped to find out.
